July 11-16 – Bible study questions – 1 Corinthians 11:2-17
Please read 1 Corinthians 11:2-17 and answers these questions:
25. Define “contentious” and “custom” – 11:16.
26. What “custom” did the churches not have (try re-reading the context of the passage before you answer)?
* Aside from the discussion about coverings, list some lessons we can learn and agree upon based on verses 2-16.
* Verse 17 refers to “these instructions” (NKJV) or “this that I declare” (KJV). Does Paul here refer to what he has already said, what he is about to say, or both. Consider his use of similar expressions in 1 Corinthians 4:6,14; 7:6,35; 9:8,15,17,23; 10:11; 11:22,30.
* Having examined the text, we are ready to consider various views of the application to today. For the following views, list reasons for and against (pro and con) each one:
1) Why Apply the Teaching During Church Assemblies?
2) The View that the Passage Requires Only Long Hair
(More views will be assigned in future lessons.)
